This is 14: Traveling the World in one Day by Danny Medrano
This is 14.
Fourteen is traveling the world in one day. Only 24 hours available, yet every one is filled. You are busy all the time and wish for the day to be longer. So that you can have some time to do what you like. To have time to think about your long road ahead of you.
Fourteen is being grateful for your brothers and grandparents that love you and care for you. Although sometimes you wish you had no brothers you still feel lucky for having people to keep you company and entertain you.
14 is when every birthday candle wish is “ I hope I don’t get clothes ”
At 14 you routinely wake up extra early to eat breakfast and get all your stuff ready for school because it takes you a long time to get ready. You do your best to look presentable, you take a shower, gel your hair and take about 20 minutes putting shirts on and then taking them off when at the end you just put put the shirt you had on originally.
Fourteen is the very beginning of staying up past 12 and working on homework. You know that when you get to college there is going to be more homework and less sleep. You have an exciting life ahead of you. You have an whole adventure to go on you have plenty of people to meet and see what the world offers you.
It is still liking your tummy and hating your back. You wish you had better posture so you wouldn’t feel like you look like igor all the time. You love your beautiful tummy because you can eat all you want and still not have a jelly belly.
Fourteen is becoming a young adult more and more each day. You can’t wait to grow up and make your own decisions. You are eager to have more freedom.
At 14 your tolerance for disrespectful people is at an all time low. You feel a need to tell people that they are being rude and disrespectful. Especially when you see people being disrespectful to their elders.
It is having fourteen years of experience and using them to your advantage. You either will make the right decision or the wrong decision. One mistake can change everything.
Fourteen is full of fleeting moments of happiness and sadness as you watch your older brothers leave and make there own life. You fear that your family is getting smaller by the years but really it's only getting bigger and bigger.
It is enjoying being fourteen every second because you are only fourteen once. You promise to never change who you are but you know that change is coming, you change when you least expect it.
Fourteen is constantly praying, “Please help me get my homework done”, “Please help me do good in this game”, “Please help me do good on this test.” You basically pray about everything.
It is a tornado and you are in the middle of it. So many things surrounding you Friends,Family,Sports and Problems. You wonder when the tornado will end and then you realize that it has just began and that the tornado will just get bigger and bigger as life goes on.
At 14, anyone five years younger than you is a youngling that has much to learn; anyone five years older than you is a huge giant that has plenty of freedom. They can roam around anywhere.
At 14 you still don't ever understand it all, but know that you will soon learn more and understand more things than you use to.
It is being grateful that you are young and have a long road ahead of you. A road that will lead you to success or failure. It is making mistakes right now and not making the same mistakes in the future.
This is 14. This is me. Now.
